Life of an introvert.

Your neighbors come over for dinner, you’ve been in your room all day, never got out of your pajamas. You come out to see your house full of people that you barely talk to, you get your food quietly and sit down and eat. You hear them talking about something, something you have no knowledge on. You ask a question, they don’t hear you. You continue eating until the subject has been changed. You know something about this topic, you share some fact, they don’t listen. Nobody is talking now, maybe they heard you but your presence is unwanted so they all stopped talking. Someone asks you some generic question because they know your shy, “How’s school” this is too broad, you can’t think of any answer and you don’t want to rant about how much you hate it because that’ll bring everyone down. You say “It’s alright.” That was it. That was your moment of glory, your back to being a fly on the wall. You try to talk to the person next to you, someone you played with as a child, but over the years you just grew apart. You know nothing about them now, you try to start a conversation but the only things you know about are really nerdy. You just eat quietly as you think of something to say. Eventually you eat all your food and are just sitting there. Still not knowing what to do, everyone is engaged in small conversations so you just leave and go back to your room. When you get there you hear everyone laughing and having fun, even the person you sat next to who barely talked is talking and laughing. You’re just waiting now for everyone to leave or to be called out again and later scolded for how rude you were for not talking, or just leaving without asking to be excused. Maybe it would have been better if you had just stayed in your room, faked a sickness, ate when they all left. Maybe you should have been very extroverted, made people listen to you, get them engaged in nerdy topics. Maybe you shouldn’t be blogging about this and go back out there. Maybe I should stop saying “you” when I really mean “I”
